Celebrity hook ups we never knew about until now

Rita Moreno had a torrid, on-again-off-again affair with Marlon Brando for eight years after meeting him on the set of Desiree (1954) when she was 22 to his 30 years old. She wrote in her memoir (via the New York Post), “Just meeting him that first day sent my body temperature skyrocketing as though I had been dropped into a very hot bath, and I went into a full-body blush. It was the sort of rush that inspires poetry and songs.”

She added, “To say that he was a great lover — sensual, generous, delightfully inventive — would be gravely understating what he did not only to my body, but for my soul. Every aspect of being with Marlon was thrilling, because he was more engaged in the world than anyone else I’d ever known.”

Unfortunately, the affair was not a happy one. She continued, “He broke my heart and came close to crushing my very spirit with his physical infidelities and, worse, with his emotional betrayals … I couldn’t stay away. In fact, I was becoming addicted to the challenge of winning him over and over again.”

Within their eight-year romance, Brando married and fathered children with two other women and even pressured Moreno to get an abortion when it was discovered she was pregnant with his child. The melodrama led her to attempt suicide in 1962 when she found out Brando had fallen in love with his Mutiny On The Bounty (1962) co-star Tarita. Teripiia. “We were locked in the ultimate folie à deux, a crazy love that lasted for years, until one day I quite literally was forced out of a coma and had to choose life over him,” she wrote.

Eventually, Moreno’s therapist begged both her and Brando to stay away from one another, and they finally agreed. In 1965, she married Leonard Gordon, who she called the love of her life — but Brando remained “the lust of [her] life.”
